Go Fund Me

Hello! We recently found out that some of our faculty members are using Go Fund Me to raise funds for their small initiatives (without our knowledge) such as updating reading rooms or book collection. Here is some example that we came across: William F Menking Book Collection, organized by The Architects Newspaper

This campaign is created by an individual who then wishes to transfer the funds to the Institute. What are the implications of this? Should we even accept the funds?

    Thank you,
    Marta

Please see the FundSvcs own load community for Third-Party Fundraising Policies.  There are many issues here.  Top of the list is donor confusion and donor fatigue.  Next to the too is that these "gifts" might not be deductible if benefiting individuals and not the institution.  Next on the list is an erosion of annual giving efforts as donors may believe they have met their obligation.

You need to establish a command and control policy for these efforts.  Get them under your jurisdiction following advancement protocols!
