Corporate sponsorship question?

  • 1.  Corporate sponsorship question?

We have an alum that wants to pay for 100 students and staff to come to Maryland for a career event that he wants to hold.  It will be around $40,000 and will pay for bus, hotel, meals, rental of equipment for the event and potentially space if rented.  I am being asked if this can be a taxable corporate sponsorship?

Sounds like this might be self-serving.  Is this an activity your College would normally support and conduct?  And who will pick the students and staff and why wouldn't it be open to the entire College population?

I have too many questions about this.  Why don't you conduct your own career event on campus and let the alum cut you a check?  It sure would be a lot less expensive than covering transportation and expenses to send people out of state.
