Airline Vouchers as GIK?

  • 1.  Airline Vouchers as GIK?

We have a unique situation that hasn't arisen for us before. We have a donor who would like to make a gift of airline vouchers in lieu of their annual cash gift. Has anyone had experience with this? Can something like this be recorded as a GIK? A few things we're still getting information on are whether the vouchers have an expiration date and whether or not we could even use them with our travel service.

I think the first thing you need to check on is if they are even transferable.  Frequent flier miles are not!  And even if they were, they have no tax-deductible value.  This could also be the case with the vouchers.  They might not be transferable.  If they are, they may have no deductible value depending on the fine print.
