Campaign Counting

We are in the process of finalizing our campaign counting report, and a question came up about pledge payments and the CASE guidelines on counting pledge payments from past pledges.

If a donor made a previous commitment (prior to the date we started counting), and that pledge is booked by the business office, do we count the payments made on said pledge in this campaign, given that this campaign is a comprehensive campaign?

Any guidance would be helpful. Thank you!

No.  You cannot ever count payments made on pledges that donors made before the inception of the current campaign.  It does not matter whether you ever counted the pledge in some other campaign.  What matters only is whether the pledge was made during this campaign.  If it was not, then corresponding payments cannot be counted, either.

FWIW, this has been the CASE standard since the first campaign policies came out in 1994 - and remain true 25-years later in the latest edition.

Thank you John. This is what I thought to be the case. Thank you for confirming.
