Emailing Pledge Reminders to Donors

  • 1.  Emailing Pledge Reminders to Donors

Does anyone email pledge reminders to donors, instead of sending a paper reminder? We have recently converted to emailing tax receipts for all donations, except where the donor has requested to receive a paper copy or we don't have an active email. We've been asked to do the same process with pledge reminders. I'm wondering if anyone currently does this?

We've discussed this before so you may want to look in the archives.

I know of many institutions that do this.  However, it is a best practice to ask first.  Many donor feel that sending this "confidential" information via email is not appropriate.

I searched the archives before I posted. I didn't see anything about emailed pledge reminders in the last year and a half so I figured it was safe to ask again.

We are just beginning the process of converting our mailed pledge reminders to email. We are looking for information about how fulfillment rates might be affected, best practices, etc. It is our intent to add a personalized link to the gift cart that would populate the designation(s) and expected payment amount(s), but nothing has been finalized. For others who email reminders, I'm looking for pitfalls to watch out for as we start this process. Thanks!

Jackie - we have gone to emailed pledge reminders and find that it offers opportunity for engagement via email that might not have happened without the ease of that type of communication. We send out a "cover letter type" email  and a personalized PDF with the details. The cover letter email has a link to our giving site.  We make it clear that they may send the payment in via regular mail as well.
