    The Development Department at RAND is seeking an Advancement Services Specialist to provide ongoing data entry into the donor database.  Through this position, the Advancement Services Specialist is expected to contribute to the achievement of the fundraising objectives of the RAND Corporation.  This position reports to the Manager, Advancement Services.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Fundraising Systems Administration

      • Process gift and grant data

      • Notify appropriate RAND staff of gifts and run progress gift reports

      • Determine donor intent and work with Development Officers to collect all vital pieces of gift backup in compliance with Gift Acceptance Policy

      • Conduct research and create profiles

      • Maintain calendar of events, solicitations and mailings for department use

      • Serve as administrator for Relsci, LexisNexis, iWave, WealthX and other subscription and application package

    • Constituent Data Management

      • Create systems designed to enable researching and updating contact information, processing returned mail, recording survey responses

      • Conduct routine maintenance of donor database and recommending process improvements

      • Add new constituents upon the request of development staff and in response to regular membership subscriptions

      • Create and manage memberships including Board of Trustees and Advisory Boards

      • Field cases and queries from Development Officers in a timely manner

    • Reports, Queries and Exports  

      • Builds and maintains reports and data queries; provides data analysis with action recommendations

      • Prepare prospect management reports

      • Create campaigns for email blasts and import event invitees into campaigns

      • Manage responses and RSVPs and advise AAs who are taking manual RSVPs

      • Create reports for registrations, sec logs, nametags for each event


    • Experience handling information in databases

    • Knowledge of fundraising database; Salesforce or Raiser's Edge preferred

    • Knowledge of MS Office; intermediate Excel and Word

    • Attention to detail is critical

    • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects and competing deadlines

    • Critical thinking and sound judgement


    Minimum of three years of related experience


    AA/AS required

    BA/BS preferred
