Gift at point of sale

  • 1.  Gift at point of sale

Our office is inquiring about implementing the option for customers to make a gift when making a purchase at any of our Creamery facilities.  They are interested in having the option appear when they pay via credit card (similar to grocery stores).  They want the giving option to appear on the machine asking the customer if they wish to include a donation at time of payment.   Has anyone implemented this process?  If so, do you receive donor information?

    Thank you!

Patricia, getting donor data is not really an option with POS fundraising. The POS system doesn't collect donor data, and in practice, in most retail settings, neither does the store. In some cases, depending on the POS solution used, the donations are made to a DAF like Benevity. In other cases they're made directly to the beneficiary charity. The donor's receipt from the store should indicate the contribution and can be used to claim a deduction. Sometimes the donation will be matched by the store, too, though that payment is typically made on a monthly or other recurring basis, not at the time of the initial donation.

    Thank you,
