For you Raiser's Edge shops out there - can you let me know how you handle couples in fundraiser;s portfolios - do you add both to the portfolio?  If so, do you count them as 2 prospects in the portfolio or as one?

    Jeanette,

We add a fundraiser relationship to whoever is the head of household only. However, we then add a constituent code such as "Major Donor" to both constituents of the couple. This allows us to use the code for inclusion/exclusion in various queries for mailing lists and reports.

The system does have its shortcomings. We ask the gift officers to only add actions and opportunities to the constituent directly assigned to their portfolio, regardless of who they spoke with. Additionally, we have occasional issues with gifts going on the unassigned constituent, and it doesn't appear the same way in their NXT work center. (Honestly, we have more issues with this when it comes to assigned organizations and their unassigned owners.)

Despite the shortcomings, the simplicity of the portfolio is worth it for us.
