Best Practice in Gender Maintenance - A Must Read!

  • 1.  Best Practice in Gender Maintenance - A Must Read!

    Posted 5 days ago
The Records Management sub-committee of the aasp Best Practices Committee just published a much-anticipated update to an older paper on Gender Maintenance.  Here's the overview from the document:

    Issue Addressed
"It is respectful to use constituents' chosen titles for database entities.      Nonprofits that have already addressed this topic from the philosophical and technical perspectives, and have seen successes, are valuable resources for the rest of our industry. However, some organizations are only in the infancy of this conversation. This document could be a reference guide for nonprofits currently trying to implement a workable solution for non-binary gender constituents."

We are grateful to Rikki Bryant for the considerable effort she put into this document - as well as the many individuals who contributed and helped edit the document.

Here is the link for aasp members.  If you do not happen to be a member of aasp - yet - now is the time to join!

Thanks for sharing this, John! Absolutely wonderful!

A companion piece for those who have not seen it is Apra's DEI Data Guide, free to everyone (you do not have to be an Apra member to view/download): https://www.aprahome.org/page/dei-data-guide
