Schedule G information

    Hi all,

I was wondering who at your Institution is in charge of the Schedule G that is needed for Fundraising events.  Accounting used to fill this document with Advancement's input but recently they are sending the document to Advancement to fill out  and having it be our responsibility only.  Some fundraising events are not driven through Advancement so I am unable to answer some of the questions.

I am not if how others do this and if it is team effort?   I would appreciate the feedback.
    Thanks,
    Anna

The central Tax Management folks are ultimately responsible, but they come to me for all the information they need. Not to be glib, but it sounds like the more pressing issue is that there are fundraising events not being coordinated with Advancement.

Our Tax folks in Finance have the responsibility for this form.

My team does this. It’s due Dec 31 for previous fiscal year. We work with event staff to gather all info.

Echoing what others have stated, I cannot recall any time I saw this as an Advancement responsibility.  While it is accurate to state that you have data pertinent to the completion of the form, overall institutional responsibility typically falls with whichever office files your tax return.

The same applies to the schedule of foreign donations and even 8282s.  Although I do often urge Advancement to take the lead on the 8282 as it can have donor relations implications (copies have to go to the donor).  But still, the actual filing of the 8282 is with the institutional tax official.
