Advancement Software/Services Categories

  • 1.  Advancement Software/Services Categories

    All,

Working on a project that required categorization of software/services within Advancement.  Thought, it would be a good opportunity to share the categories for crowdsourcing and see what other groups/categories/definitions could be added.  Ultimately, I've used this list to categorize the systems within our Division and produce a nice mindmap/etc.

Chart provided below and feel free to use modify at your discretion :).

    Mark,

I might suggest a category related to use with code repository or document/object Cloud storage.

@Dwight D Dozier  - I've added cloud storage as an item to my list. Great suggestion! Considering just how many different implementations of Cloud storage is possible (local NAS/Google/OneDrive/etc) it's certainly something to track.  In my implementation of the list, i've put code repo as an issue tracking element.

    Hi Mark,

I'm curious how you categorized cross-functional software like auction management, event planning, P2P, and stewardship tools.

    Isaac,

Depending on how someone is going to implement the categories (tags, 1:1, etc).  A software/service could have multiple categories.  For my project, I've just made a hard decision as to which *single* group would be most representative of the service.  So, using your examples i'd categorize them as the following:

    Auction management - Giving
Event planning - This could warrant another category (Event management) or fall under communications (as a portal).  #LetTheDebateBegin :)
    P2P - Giving
Stewardship tools (ei: ThankView) - Communications

    Mark....

I would include engagement as a category.  This is where event software would be included, as well as any online communities.  I actually would also include any email marketing software in that category, as I see digital marketing as a more sophisticated type of software.
