Hello Friends – Looking for some stats regarding digital wallets, specifically PayPal/Venmo.  If you use a platform that accepts gifts via PayPal/Venmo, can you please cite your transaction volume (as a % of total annual transactions) and $$ (as a % of total ANNUAL GIVING dollars – would certainly make sense to exclude major gifts).  This info is needed to make a case to our Controller's office.  Thanks very much!!

    Hi Lisette,

We use paypal and then venmo is an option within paypal (fyi - paypal owns venmo) . . . based on how that is set up (i.e. have to go through paypal to use venmo), we can't distinguish between the two.

the combined total $$ represents 7% of annual giving $$ received online and 8% of ## of online transactions

The last we heard about being able to 'venmo' directly to a university was that venmo didn't allow non profits to set up accounts . . . not sure if that changed (if anyone knows differently, let me know)

    Good luck

    Hi Lisette,

We added the PayPal/Venmo option to our online giving page shortly before our Day of Giving last April.  Just over 20% of our donors who gave online for Day of Giving used PayPal/Venmo.  Dollar-wise, it accounted for 10% of our DoG online gift total.  Also, 10% of our donors who have scheduled/perpetual gifts use PayPal/Venmo. (Many of those recurring gifts were initially created on our DoG last year.)

We have PayPal set up with iModules, but it hasn't been in place long enough to give any numbers. I will say that it was pretty painless, and I felt like we were years, if not decades, behind in getting it as an option.

I'm curious about the folks using Venmo. What does the actual interface look like? I presume they can't use the Venmo app on their phone to pay, so does it just take them to a web-based checkout page for Venmo instead? My dream is using the phone app, otherwise it's the same as any other third party like PayPal, Visa Pay, etc.
